Olive in the window

Walking past the wonderful The Lion & the Unicorn children's bookshop in Richmond with my lovely publishers en route to see Bette and Joan at the Richmond Theatre, and what did we spy... Olive in the window! A first sighting of that kind for me.

Olive! There you are!

And next to Alfie - you are very lucky. Don't tell him the secret!

I really enjoyed Bette and Joan - Greta Scacci was really very like Bette Davis, and if you closed your eyes sounded exactly like her. The play was set backstage during the filming of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Although Now, Voyager, is my total favourite. If you haven't seen it, I really think you should! It's the greatest. "Bette" had some super lines in the play, in one part describing herself as having "poached egg eyes". Wouldn't it have been a rather different song with that title?

Spideycat

One of those where I couldn't quite translate the feeling from sketch to colour. Not a profound feeling, admittedly, but still... I prefer his googly sketch eyes!

Friday good times

Finished the pre-Bologna rush so I'm twiddling thumbs today, listening to jolly Friday music and doodling. I recently got in touch again with a lovely friend I'd not seen since university, Rachel Bright. She invited me to have some drinks with some illustrators last night in a pub in Farringdon. It was great to meet some new people, and so brilliant to see Rachel again. Sarah McIntyre took some nice photos and wrote a bit about the evening on her blog.

I'm off to Brighton! Have a great weekend!

Do you take sugar? One lump or two?...

Ambrose on TV!

A really exciting television listing! Ambrose Goes for Gold is going to be read on CBeebies on March 23rd as their bedtime story, as part of a Sport Relief special! Dan Walker is a presenter on Football Focus, so that's exciting indeed. I expect he is chomping at the bit to read Ambrose, and it will be a nice break for him from talking about all that football. I imagine it may look like this:

And then perhaps he will interview Ambrose...
I'm really thrilled and can't wait!
