More screenprinting!

I decided that I'd have a go at four colours this time! Which means four stages at which things can go wrong... BUT I'm happy with how these came out, and actually felt like I was slowing down and feeling calm and patient, ish. Having four colours is making me think of everything I can do next!

What kind of thinking are these cats doing? Why, the deep kind of course. They are French Left Bank intellectuals, and they have lots of ideas.

When I've got some nice photos I'll put them in my Big Cartel shop!

And here's a toucan having a break:

And more...

I'm getting to the end of some projects, and thinking about screen printing more, and cards and things. Also just playing around too! It's nice doing some stuff for it's own sake, I get to be self-indulgent and just do more animals and instruments. My horns are improving though I think! All the pipes (mostly) go places now - they used to tail off into mid air...

Also thinking in terms of screen printing is nice as it makes me think in more minimal colours, and also outside the lines a bit, which looks more relaxed I think.

I bought some trousers very like this recently, and I wear them with stripy socks! Basically all my animals wear clothes I want, and very occasionally have.

Boop boop boop!

What's better than berets and turtlenecks on their own? Berets and turtlenecks with brass instruments!

As Bertie Wooster would say, this guy's brain is going like a buzz saw!

And some inspired writing...

Screen printing morning!

Had a few much more successful printing hours, phew! So the key is: smaller, and less layers. Pretty obvious really.

And now I've finally cleaned the screen, yay! Poor desiccated hands feeling less thrilled about this whole new craze, but hey ho. And sorry for the horrible picture quality, will take some nice ones with my camera before putting them in my Big Cartel shop!

Halloween print

I did this yoga cat screen print as part of a Halloween workshop - it has two layers, black and a glow in the dark layer. Unfortunately I hadn't really understood how the GITD bit would work, that it wouldn't glow through the black. So when the lights go out you get half of a big cat's bum and half a face... I tried taking a photo but the glow wasn't strong enough! Never mind, every time I print I learn something new! The thing I often learn is that I'm impatient and want things to work NOW!!

Cats n boas

Lots of a cat playing with her boa!

I've decided to give up on the idea of separating my children's drawings from my more "grown-up" ones - I didn't seem to be sticking to it anyway, and I'd rather keep everything on one blog. So if you do happen to look at this with little ones, be aware - but really I don't post anything THAT saucy, and if ever I do, I will be sure to flag it beforehand. Thanks for looking!

Hanging by the hollyhocks

Drawing plants and flowers isn't something I've done lots of (apart from in Ambrose I guess, where the insects sat on lots of relatively giant plants), but this book has been good practise. Hollyhocks ho!

More little guys

Lots of little guys, bits from bigger pictures! My favourite animal here is the flute-playing bear below in the middle. I quite like her shirt and that she looks very serene, and I imagine she practises hard and does her music homework without having to be nagged first.
